Wilderness Education – Graduate Assistantship

Graduate Assistant (GA) positions cover $5000 in tuition in both the fall and spring semesters.
There is a stipend of $1250 in both the fall and spring semesters with a service commitment of 20 hours per week when classes are in session.

Description
The GA will be responsible managing the Wilderness Education Equipment rooms that support the Wilderness Education Program, Venture Outdoors and the Live Now! Program (Center for Diversity). These equipment rooms include the Climbing Wall/Ropes Course, Rock and Ice Climbing, Backpacking/Expedition, and Food Storage Room. Management will include inventory, repair and maintenance and issuing/de-issuing of gear/equipment/food. The GA will supervise other Student Assistants in order to accomplish these tasks.

The GA will also be responsible for the operations of the climbing wall and ropes course which supports open climbing wall hours for the general student body, programming for community organizations and used for recruitment and retention purposes. These duties will include the staffing and training of student assistants, as well as ensuring that the procedures and policies are adhered to.

The GA may be required to assist on field experiences if necessary.

The GA will work 20 hours per week when school is in session.

Preferred Skillsets:

• Manage inventory of all equipment used by the Wilderness Education Program.
• Programming experience climbing walls and High Ropes Courses.
• Social Media development via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
• Management of staff
• Ability to lead backpacking trips for up to 5-days
• Experience at leading day hiking trips
