Jerry & Catherine Welsh Scholarship

Jerry Welsh spent over 23 years in dedicated service to the people and programs at SUNY Potsdam. In his official capacity as Athletic Director and Basketball Coach, Jerry prepared hundreds of young men to achieve the best of which they were capable. Catherine and Jerry were also dedicated volunteers for several of the College’s capital campaigns, including SUNY Potsdam’s first campaign that concluded in 1990, which was the first capital campaign to be completed by a SUNY campus. To qualify for the Jerry & Catherine Welsh Scholarship, a student must:

1. Be a matriculated student who has expressed an interest in pursuing a teaching certification
2. Have successfully completed at least one required course for coaching certification*
3. Have financial need
4. Have an overall GPA of at least 2.75
5. Be involved in some type of leadership in campus and/or community programs while at SUNY Potsdam
6. Candidate must also be a graduate of a St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Clinton, Essex, Franklin or Lewis county high school.
7. If there are no qualified candidates from any of these counties, a recipient may be chosen who is a resident of New York State.

The scholarship shall be renewable for up to one additional year, provided the recipient remains in good academic standing.
